You may have purchased their healthy offerings at farmers' markets in Lincoln Square, Andersonville, Daley Plaza or at Green City Market over the years. Now, River Valley Ranch has a storefront in the Ravenswood neighborhood.
River Valley Ranch began as a family run mushroom farm in Wisconsin in 1976. The Rose family then added a commercial kitchen in 1997 creating sauces, dips and pickled vegetables. Though they've often made their products available at farmers' markets in the Chicagoland area, their preservative-free foods can now be purchased seven days a week on Wilson Ave in the building that once housed City Provisions.
In addition to their selection of Portabella, Crimini, White Button, Shiitake and Oyster mushrooms, River Valley Ranch & Kitchens sells an assortment of natural products including marinades, glazes and granola made largely with ingredients grown by them. Want to be your own mushroom farmer? Pick up a DIY mushroom kit while you're there.
Other features of the store include a meat, deli and cheese counter, as well as a café boasting breakfast items, salads and sandwiches. Many of their menu options can be made vegan and gluten free. There are also plans for a wine room and beer service.
To commemorate their many years as a company, River Valley Ranch & Kitchens will ring in the New Year by offering in-store samples and a 38% discount on January 1.
Open from 6:30am – 7pm, River Valley Ranch & Kitchens is located at 1820 W Wilson Ave.
