Café Tola, an empanada and expresso bar, has been doling out fresh empanadas, pastries, and Mexican coffees every day since November. Formerly an office, the owners decided to carve out an electric-blue-kitchen space for crispy empanadas in a neighborhood in need of Latin cuisine.
A glass case displays empanadas like plantain, goat cheese and black bean; poblano and cheese; and spicy pork and potatoes. Soon to come are a crab, tomato, cilantro and onion empanada, as well as a mango and farmer’s cheese. The restaurant also plans to expand their drink menu, add coconut flan, and build a patio in the spring.
