For just five shows, The Rascals are playing at Cadillac Palace. I was invited to attend opening night of Once Upon a Dream Starring the Rascals and was lucky enough to have been sat in the front row.
The show is in Chicago for a short time after a sold-out run on Broadway. Written by Steven Van Zandt and directed by Mr Van Zandt and Marc Brickman, Once Upon a Dream Starring the Rascals tells the story of the formation, and eventual downfall, of 60s sensation the Rascals. It’s a live “Behind the Music.”
Live and loud. I felt old when I realized I should have brought ear plugs, but I was in good company. The show is a concert for people who like comfortable seats. After all, the Rascals were big in the 60s. However, even those of us who don’t remember the Rascals music when it originally came out will recognize “Beautiful Morning” and “Groovin’.”
This is a band happy to perform. The original band members – Felix Cavaliere, Eddie Brigati, Dino Danelli, and Gene Cornish – are the stars, but the backing vocalists are featured prominently as well.
Feeling nostalgic or just like seeing a good show, Once Upon a Dream Starring the Rascals is a winning show.
