2014 is one of the biggest hotel years we’ve seen since before the recession. New boutiques are popping up throughout the city, the international Soho House brand is coming to Chicago, and Richard Branson has chosen Chicago as a location for Virgin Hotels.
The Virgin Hotel folks are pretty tight lipped about the new property, but we know the new hotel will move into the Loop's Old Dearborn Bank Building (203 N. Wabash Ave.). The current plans will restore the architectural features of the 27-stoy building, while adding a bit of Virgin style to the historic art deco property.
The newest name to join Branson’s Chicago team is Chef Rick Gresh. For seven years, Gresh served as the executive chef at Primehouse at the James Hotel. Chef Gresh’s final day at Primehouse is June 1 and his first day with Virgin will be June 9.
The exact opening date is unknown but we’re guessing sometime between mid-summer and early autumn. For more details on the new property, here’s a helpful infographic from Virgin Hotels.
