Headquarters River North Set to Open August 28

Prepare to play some vintage arcade games in River North! Capacity Bar Group plans to open the second Headquarters Beercade location on Thursday, August 28.

The new space will offer more than 65 vintage arcade and pinball game titles, a lineup of 38 craft beers on tap, more than 40 craft beer cans, and the brand’s first foray into food.

The new 14,000 square-foot location builds on the success of Headquarters in Lakeview and promises a blend of low-maintenance nightlife and high-energy entertainment.

“Our goal is to provide a truly imaginative, unique experience,” said Brian Galati, partner at Capacity Bar Group. “From our game titles, beer list and cocktail program, to our music, and now our brand-new menu, we boldly push the limits with extreme attention to detail in order to set HQ Beercade apart.”

Executive Chef Christopher Coker, previously of W Hotels and Takashi, will draws influence from ‘80s culture and put an artisanal spin on classic “TV dinners.”

While HQ Beercade River North’s kitchen won’t be fully open until Thursday, September 4, sample tastings of the new menu will be available for the first two weeks.

Pictures of the new space are still locked behind the 8th castle in Super Mario Brothers, but from what we’ve heard the space has an eclectic mixture of industrial finishes and 80’s memorabilia. The decor includes a vintage hydraulic lift host stand, a collection of 1930s’ fire extinguishers, meat grinders from the 1940s, and more than 40 retro tube televisions streaming nostalgic videos.

More than ten thousand cassette tapes will serve as a unique backdrop for the DJ booth and the entry way will be filled with cartoon sketches and poems from the Chicago-based author, poet, and storyteller Shel Silverstein.

Taking people one step further into the 80s is the city’s first cell phone check-in station. Similar to coat check, the station encourages patrons to connect with friends over craft beer and video game domination.

HQ Beercade River North’s opening day will be Thursday, August 28 from 5 p.m. to 2 p.m.

The regular hours will be Monday - Thursday from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m., Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
