Peet’s Coffee & Tea, a specialty coffee and tea company, is planning to open 16 new stores and employ 270 Chicagoans across the city. As part of a nation wide expansion, Peet’s opened a new flagship store at 20 N. Michigan Avenue, across from Millennium Park and Cloud Gate.
The flagship shop reflects the brand’s contemporary design elements alongside a few unique nods to Chicago’s history and community. The store includes historic photos of Chicago icons – e.g. Harry Carey, Al Capone, and Michael Jordan – drinking coffee.
Key materials such as walnut orchard wood floors and espresso stained casework create an open, inviting space along with a “living wall” of plants that pays homage to the ivy covering Wrigley Field’s outfield wall.
“With today’s opening of our Michigan Avenue flagship, we’re unveiling a new, contemporary store experience that not only highlights the art and passion of our coffee making, but also connects to the history and spirit of Chicago,” said Dave Burwick, president and CEO of Peet’s Coffee & Tea.
According to some sources, the expansion will utilize former Caribou Coffee locations.
