This weekend one of the most popular convention tours in the country hits the Chicago area. Wizard World's Comic Con will take over the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center for four days of cosplay, celebrity sightings, and all things pop culture. This year it's also joined by SocialCon, a new convention that features internet celebrities.
Norman Reedus, Matt Smith, Stan Lee, Bruce Campbell, Patrick Stewart, David Boreanaz and none other than Stan Lee are just a few of the stars who will be in Rosemont. In addition to the people who create and bring pop culture's favorite characters to life, attendees can also learn how to create a comic, meet your mate with speed dating, get tips on turning your nerdiness into a paying gig, and much more.
SocialCon Chicago features experts who have done just that. From Nash Grier, the teen with more than six million followers on Vine, to Manny the Frenchie, this new event celebrates the art of going viral. Tickets get you access to the show floor, panels, the live DJ & Drummer Dance Party, a performance by FarYoung Live, and the Charging Station and Lounge. At both conventions photographs, autographs, and meet and greets are extra.
Trekkies should have defribrillators handy for Sunday's "Star Trek: The Next Generation Reunion Event" at Rosemont Theatre (5400 N River Rd, Des Plaines, IL). Patrick Stewart, Johnathan Frakes, Levar Burton, Michael Dorn, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, Gates McFadden will reminisce about the twenty year series, led by none other than Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner. Tickets for this event range from $40 to $170 and all ticket buyers will receive a limited edition-lithograph.
ComicCon takes place Thursday through Sunday, and SocialCon is Saturday Sunday.
