For 24 years The Red Lion Pub was a beloved English pub in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. From 1984, when it was opened by John Cordwell, to 2008, the Red Lion welcomed newcomers and old-timers alike.
Some of these old-timers were really old - as in dead. The bar was known as the "most haunted pub in Chicago", with ghost sightings galore. These regulars are still there, even scaring an electrician with a few well-placed steps on the staircase just a few weeks ago.
On July 16 John's son Colin will reopen the neighborhood "haunt" for everyone. In addition to the traditional English fare, new Chef Spero Botsis is introducing some French and American influences to the pub grub. He'll make as much as possible in-house and the ingredients will be locally sourced. Libations will include an extensive whiskey selection and fourteen draught beers so you can have a pint with your poltergeist.
The Red Lion Pub is located at 2446 N Lincoln Ave.
