A Day of Lyric Opera: Costume Sale and Free Concert September 6

September 6 is a "lyrical" day in Chicago. The famed Lyric Opera company is hosting both a costume sale at the Civic Opera House and a free concert in Millennium Park.

From 9am to 6pm you can browse and purchase over 3,000 costume pieces, including hats, in the Rice Grand Foyer of the Civic Opera House (20 N Wacker Dr.). Represented operas include Don Giovanni, The Mikado, The Voyage of Edgar Allan Poe, The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, A Masked Ball, The Pirates of Penzance, the Ring cycle, The Flying Dutchman, I Capuleti e I Montecchi, and Die Fledermaus. Prices range from $1 to $200 and everything is sold as-is. The sale's free but they'd like a donation of $5, if you please.

After you've picked up this year's Halloween costume head over to Millennium Park for Stars of Lyric Opera. The free concert starts at 7:30 in the Jay Pritzker Pavilion and includes selections from the upcoming 60th Anniversary season. Be moved by the Act One finale of Tosca, the final scene of Don Giovanni, and more. For real-time translation follow along on your phone at lyricoperalive.org.
