Roger Harris is a fantastic pianist that I’ve known for years. He accompanied me last week to hear 56 Hope Road at Duffy’s and was so impressed he offered to write a quick review.
56 Hope Road is an eclectic band that transcends the boundaries of genre. They masterfully transitioned from folk, alternative, funk, reggae, jazz, smooth jazz, jazz fusion, acid jazz and even a little gospel while still maintaining a consistent sound. The musicians continued to show great depth as they seemed to have an endless amount of musical resource and creativity. The group plays with a very high energy level, being driven by an excellent drummer, acoustic bass player and filled out by an incendiary sax player and a very versatile keyboard player.
This group is a must see as they would satisfy any musical pallet. I, as a jazz musician, found the performance very fulfilling and challenging. Don’t miss their performance Nov. 21 at the Park West
