A Chorus Line: Chicago Style

Porchlight Music Theatre has done it again. They close their 2018/2019 season with a spectacular version of A Chorus Line. This production is not for the theatrical company faint of heart, as it has won numerous Tony awards and a Pulitzer Prize for drama. It is also the seventh longest-running Broadway show.

The cast and director do a magnificant job drawing you in as the story unfolds.  The stage at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts is intimate, matching the one-act tale of 17 dancers auditioning for a once-in-a-lifetime role, even just to be in the chorus. Each actor/dancer reveals their story and why they want to be dancers. As in real life, each account reveals the struggles and sacrifices artists make to do what they love most. It is never an easy road, but for many it is the only road.

You’ll rediscover songs you know but may not have known originated with this production such as Dance Ten, Looks Three, What I did for Love, and of course One, just to name a few. The multi-talented cast belts out numbers as it relates to their own narrative, weaving together a story that leaves you aching for them, fingers crossed that they all get a chance at their big break.

In their 24-year history they have been nominated for 139 Jeff Awards, receiving 42.  Additionally, they were nominated for 22 Black Theatre Alliance Awards, receiving 7. Due to popular demand, the show has been extended through May 31st. It has a run time of two hours with no intermission. Tickets are available here.
