I’ve never thought of myself as a girlie-girl, but after last Saturday I may have to reconsider. After going to Indianapolis for a mini-reunion with my high school friends on Friday I was advised to stay another day because of the weather. So, my best friend Kristine and I had one of those spontaneous days that we never could have planned and that we’ll remember forever. We got our hair done, had facials at Macy’s, went shopping in the fashion mall, bought matching bracelets, had Reisling with lunch and martinis with dinner. At the end of the day we threw our hair in ponytails, put on our sweats and danced on her bed while singing along to “Mamma Mia”. It was a perfect, laugh-filled, girlie-girl day.
We both knew that what completed it for us was the chick flick. I’ve got a 15 year old son, she has five boys, so the movies we see generally include at least one vehicle crash, three chases, five fight scenes and one saucy scantilly clad babe who can put the boys to shame in her stilettos and manicured nails. But darnit – I am a woman, and from now on I’ll proudly say that I do want to see movies like “Sleepless In Seattle”, “Thelma & Louise,” and “Love Actually.”
In an example of perfect timing, Red Kiva (1108 W Randolph St, 312-226-5577) is starting a new weekly Chick Flick event. They’ll be showing movies about friendships, romance, and just plain ol’ tearjerkers the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Wednesday of every month. As a bonus, they’re providing free popcorn, specialty martinis, and the kicker – half-price bottles of wine. They’re also giving away one 50% off certificate each week for Kaya Day Spa.
As an additional bonus, registered Local Tourists can receive 25% off their check with the all new TLT Member Discount program!
So Ladies, what are you doing next Wednesday?
