Billy Corgan's “Siddhartha” Performance at Madame ZuZu's

The Smashing Pumpkins front man, Billy Corgan, performed a free 8-hour show at his very own Madame ZuZu’s Teahouse in Highland Park.

The intimate, ambient performance was a musical interpretation of Hermann Hesse’s novel “Siddhartha,” built by a modular synthesis on the fly.

The novel deals with the spiritual journey of self-discovery of a man.  Listening to the story and hearing the synth pops and tones reminded me of my time in India.

No reservations were taken and there were no tickets to this event.  It was on a first come, first served basis. His teahouse, which comfortably holds around 35 people, rotated the audience in and out of the venue so everyone got a fair chance to see him perform.

There were special elixir teas being sold, delicious snacks, along with event t-shirts and a customized Hexistential Graphics poster being raffled off.

Madame ZuZu’s stated on their Facebook fan page that “We look forward to doing something like this again soon!”

Below is a video of the experience and photos from my afternoon spent with Corgan.
