Imperial Lamian celebrates their one year anniversary

In the heart of River North, on the corner of Hubbard and State, sits Imperial Lamian – one of Chicago’s best and most authentic Chinese restaurants. They just celebrated their first anniversary with a stellar party, co-sponsored by Piper Heidsieck and Chicago magazine.

The restaurant offers diners authentic and refined Chinese cuisine in a stylish environment, right in the heart of Chicago’s River North neighborhood, specializing in hand-pulled Lamian noodles (La meaning pull, mian meaning noodle). An ancient Chinese tradition that dates back to the 16th century, these noodles are made fresh daily and feature different varieties to choose from, such as the Pork Broth, Bone Marrow Broth or Miso Vegetarian Broth. They also serve freshly made dim sum, and wok-fired entrées. The décor includes an elaborate foyer with hand-made Oriental screens and unique birdcage pendant lights as well as stunning murals by local artist Tracee Badway.

At the anniversary party, guests were given a VIP treatment with both superior champagne pours and a sample of the extensive menu. Bites for the evening included:

  • Siew Mai – Pork and Shrimp dumpling
  • Mushroom Bao – Shiitake, royal trumpet mushrooms, truffle oil, cinnamon powder
  • Yang Chao Fan – Fried rice, shrimp, bbq pork
  • Kung Pao Chicken – Chicken thighs, cashew, dried chili
  • Dessert tower – Egg tart, golden sesame balls, pineapple cake, ginger molasses cake, seasonal fruits

To pair with Imperial Lamian’s superb menu, representatives from Piper Heidsieck poured three of the brand’s best offerings including the Rosé Sauvage, the Brut, and the special Cuvée Sublime. If you are a fan of food and wine pairing, try the Kung Pao Chicken with the Cuvée Sublime. The pairing of effervescence, the slight sweetness of the wine, and the spice of the chicken was truly sublime (pun clearly intended).
