Listen to Cavashawn, and you’ll think tight, polished, upbeat sound. A summer soundtrack that reminds you alternatively of the Beatles, Green Day, and doo wop bands from the 50’s. And you’ll think “these guys have got to be with a major label.”
See Cavashawn, and you’ll think band of pretty boys, but you’ll never mistake them for a boy band. Their live show has the energy of a punk concert without the flailing limbs. The audience is filled with screaming girls, but if you’re a dude it’s still OK to like them and know all the words to the songs. And you’ll think “these guys have got to be with a major label.”
Yet, this quartet is amazingly, incredibly, astoundingly unsigned. And that doesn’t seem to bother them. In fact, I talked with them for an hour recently and the word “label” didn’t come up once. What did come up was persistence, dedication, a bunch of hard work, 29,000 flyers, and a seemingly contradictory feeling that they’re having the time of their lives while they figure out how to take over the world.
I’ll tell you all about it tomorrow. In the meantime, they’re performing at Beat Kitchen tonight. Join me. I’ll be the one with the camera and a big ‘ol fan-girl smile singing along to every song.
