Masses of passionate people poured into McCormick Place last weekend to celebrate the arts at the third annual Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2). Movie buffs, comic enthusiasts, television devotees, music fans and art aficionados united from all over the country to show their appreciation towards their favorite medium.
C2E2 featured a plethora of sights and sounds and four floors of fun. Costumed folks were dressed as their favorite characters and I even met a man in the crowd whose skin sucks!
The IGN Theatre was on the first floor and hosted Q & A sessions with actors including John Barrowman (Torchwood) and Anthony Daniels (Star Wars). On Sunday, John Cusack appeared where fans could see him speak about his role as Edgar Allen Poe in The Raven, in theatres April 27, 2012.
The VIP lounge on the second floor was a very important place for very important people. The third floor boasted an enormous showroom floor packed with hundreds of booths including an artist alley, tattoo pavilion, children’s stage, autographing lines and various other vendors showcasing their movies, television shows, toys, anime, manga and video games.
The fourth floor is where the panels and screenings took place. Speakers included Rage Against The Machine guitarist, Tom Morello, on Friday. Actors Val Kilmer and Chad Michael Murray were Saturday’s scheduled spotlights and author Ann Rice spoke on Sunday.
Celebrity Sean Astin (The Goonies, Rudy and The Lord of the Rings) sat behind a table in an autograph line to meet his fans and actor Kevin Brown who plays Dot Com on the TV show, 30 Rock, hung out behind his table taking photos and autographing his headshots.
While making my way throughout the expo on Sunday, I met a very interesting man from Chicago who, for lack of a better term, sucks. He goes by the name of Can Head and is only one of four people in the world with an unnamed condition where his pores “suction cup” anything he places against skin. When asked how he learned of his unique trait, he said that when he was at a ball game, he was cooling his head with a cold pop can and a fly ball was coming towards him, and when he sat down, realized that the can was still stuck to his head. He even took my cell phone and it adhered to his cheek with ease. Can Head has been featured on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Ellen, WGN TV and more.
There was way too much fun and excitement happening this year, I can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year. Mark your calendars as C2E2 will be back at it again – bigger and better than ever April 26-28, 2013 at McCormick Place.
