Chicago men should pamper themselves with a visit to the Spa at Dana

For years, I have heard friends praise the joys of “spa days” and never really thought it would be “my thing.” Until now. A recent visit to the Spa at Dana for an evening of pampering has convinced me that my friends have been right all along.

The spa was named to Conde Nast Traveler’s 2014 Reader’s Poll as one of the Best Spas in the World and Allure Magazine’s Best of the Best Spa List in 2014 . . . and for very good reasons. Everything about the experience was elevated and impressive. The decor is tranquil and relaxing, the staff is professional and attentive, and most importantly the spa services are world-class.

For my visit, I was joined by a group of men who had also been invited to explore spa services specifically geared towards the male client. We indulged in appetizers and cocktails while we were treated to the “Tune Up” service for men, described in the spa menu as:

• This package is the perfect escape for any man. First, relax with a 50 minute deep tissue massage. Your skin will then be repaired with a 50 minute men’s performance facial. Our revitalizing sport pedicure will restore tired feet while you enjoy a cocktail.

In full disclosure, this was my first facial and my first pedicure. After my experience at the Spa at Dana, I will be headed back again for more. The soothing music, calming scents and comforting surroundings allowed me to just let go and revel in a rare moment of total relaxation. For anyone, but particularly for a man who has never indulged in a spa day, the Spa at Dana gets an enthusiastic “Yes!” from me.
