Chicago's Top Chef is now a Best New Chef

For over two decades Food & Wine Magazine has selected the nation’s Best New Chefs each year. To receive this honor a chef must have run a kitchen for fewer than five years and survive a rigorous selection process. Chicago’s own Stephanie Izard is no stranger to such processes; as a Top Chef winner she’s proven that she can handle the heat.

As a Best New Chef she’s joined by colleagues all over the country. Previous Chicago winners include Rick Bayless and Grant Achatz, and Stephanie also seems to engender the warm fuzzies that those two inspire. I had the good fortune to enjoy dinner at Scylla shortly before she left to compete in Top Chef and have followed her ascent ever since. Congratulations, Chef Izard; you deserve it!
