Each year the Museum of Science and Industry, 5700 S Lake Shore Dr, celebrates the holidays with Christmas Around The World and the Holidays of Light. More than fifty trees represent Chicago’s diverse ethnic communities, decorated by volunteers who want to share their cultural traditions.
In the Rotunda, MSI’s 45-foot Grand Tree will be decked out with more than 30,000 twinkling colorful lights and hundreds of ornaments and trimmings in bright, vibrant shades. Images of robots will even be helping to decorate the tree! Around the Museum’s Rotunda, fun-loving robots taking in iconic Chicago holiday traditions will be featured on four giant banners that surround the tree.
On the weekends there will be performances by various ethnic groups (schedule below), and snow will “fall” on the exhibit every half hour.
This year’s extravagant celebration begins with a Grand Tree Lighting Ceremony at 10:30am on November 19, 2015, and runs through January 3, 2016. The exhibits are included with admission, although the Robot exhibit is extra.
