COME FROM AWAY Will Inspire Us All

COME FROM AWAY tells the remarkable true story of 7,000 stranded passengers and the small town of Gander in Newfoundland that welcomed them. Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships.

On September 11, 2001 the world stopped. On September 12, their stories moved us all. Five days of closed airspace. Five days of restless waiting. Five days of incredible hospitality and genuine connections. Welcome to the Rock, you are here…

COME FROM AWAY, a new musical about the true story of the small town that welcomed the world is now playing at Broadway In Chicago’s Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 W. Randolph) for a limited three-week engagement through August 18, 2019.

Following sold-out, record-breaking, critically acclaimed world premiere engagements at La Jolla Playhouse and Seattle Repertory Theatre, COME FROM AWAY landed on the “Best Theater of 2015” lists in the Los Angeles Times, Seattle Times, San Diego Union Tribune, and Times of San Diego. Charles McNulty of the Los Angeles Times called the show “An affecting, stirring and unpretentious new musical. Christopher Ashley’s production lets the simple goodness of ordinary people outshine sensational evil,” and Bob Verini of Variety raved, “Superb! Canadians Irene Sankoff and David Hein have forged a moving, thoroughly entertaining tribute to international amity and the indomitable human spirit.”

Don’t miss this breathtaking new musical written by Tony® nominees Irene Sankoff and David Hein, and helmed by this year’s Tony-winning Best Director, Christopher Ashley. Newsweek cheers, “It takes you to a place you never want to leave!”

What would you do if you found yourself stranded on a remote Canadian island? What would you do if the world around you came crashing down while you helplessly watched the news? What would you do?..

What would you do if in the matter of hours the town you love doubled in human size? What would you do if people from the world over landed on your doorstep with just the clothes on their back, distraught, disoriented, disillusioned? What would you do if the country next door got set ablaze by evil? What would you do?..

The true events that inspired COME FROM AWAY are nothing short of a miracle. The story gives me hope for the future. There are no leading roles in this production, and yet every character brings a touch of human spirit and resilience. We laugh. We cry. We walk away refreshed and inspired. COME FROM AWAY is not to be missed.
