Ah, the chill is in the air, the beaches are empty, the idea of alfresco dining isn’t nearly as appealing, and Halloween candy is on the shelves. What does all that mean?
It’s football season!
The Bears home opener is this Sunday at noon against Detroit. Here’s how to get there without feeling like you were just rudely awakened from a months-long hibernation.
Parking
Tailgaters should park in McCormick Place Lot B. It’s $16 and there are free shuttle buses, but you can also walk to the stadium. After November 15, you can tailgate in the Burnham Harbor Lot on the Museum Campus. It’s $40, but it fills up early.
Non-tailgaters can park in the East Monroe St/Millennium Park garages at Columbus and Monroe for $13. This also has a free shuttle that only takes about 10 minutes to get to Soldier Field. The 40 buses have a special route to avoid the rest of the traffic. They start five hours before kickoff so you can get there early and meet your tailgating friends!
RV & Bus parking is available in the Adler Planetarium Lot for $85.
All parking lots are first come, first parked. If you choose street parking, be extremely aware of restrictions. The City of Chicago LOVES to ticket and tow.

Public Transportation
Unless you’re tailgating (and then I’d find friends who are and meet them there!) this is definitely the preferred way to go. Even if you’re coming in from the suburbs you can avoid driving. PACE offers shuttles from Bolingbrook, Burr Ridge, Oak Lawn, Palos Heights, Elk Grove Village, Lombard, and Schaumburg. If you’re taking the Metra, the CTA offers a bus from both Ogilvie & Union Stations to Soldier Field for only $1. Southsiders get a “Bears Extra” Metra train for all noon kickoffs. No matter where you’re coming from in the city you can use the CTA’s Trip Planner for the quickest and easiest route.
