Do This: Behind-the-Scenes Tour of the Columbia Yacht Club

Anchored in DuSable Harbor, the MV Abegweit is an unmistakable Chicago landmark. “Abby”, as she’s affectionately known, is the home of the Columbia Yacht Club. On May 12 you can get a behind-the-scenes tour of this piece of seafaring history.

The MV Abegweit was once the most powerful icebreaking ship in the world, plowing through the frigid waters of the Northumberland Straight from 1947 to 1982. The Chicago Architecture Foundation invites you to come aboard the now private yacht, which has been home to the Chicago Yacht Club since 1982 – 1983. You’ll explore the dining room, steering room, and see where railcars and automobiles were transported in the ship’s hold. You’ll also see some of the best views of the city from Abby’s outdoor deck.

Tickets are $35 or $30 for CAF members and include snacks and one drink ticket.
