Earth, Wind & Fire was energetic, wonderful and exhilarating at Ravinia last Friday, and it was a family outing I’ll always remember. While thoroughly enjoying this iconic Chicago land band, I was also celebrating my sister’s upcoming wedding to her fiance with a few close family members.
You see, she has always been a fan of Earth, Wind & Fire and turned me onto their tunes a while ago. Her favorite song, is “September,” and that song will be a constant symbol in her life that she will always remember. She got engaged on the 21st night of September last year and is getting married on the 21st night of September this year. It was so apropos that my family and I celebrated her upcoming nuptials at the Earth, Wind & Fire concert.
The day was beautiful, it was sunny and the temperature was just right. I entered Ravinia with my wagon full of goodies and my family and I were lucky enough to find an excellent lawn spot smack dab in the middle with a perfect view of their lawn screen. At Ravinia, you’re unable to see the stage from most areas of the lawn, so on occasional shows dates, they set-up a gigantic LED screen on the lawn with a live feed of the performance on stage. I’ve been attending shows at Ravinia for years and this was my first lawn screen experience, and let me tell you, it was marvelous.
Earth, Wind & Fire stepped out on stage and the crowd went absolutely wild. They got everyone on their feet and took you through their catalog of superb songs. They started with their 1975 hit, “Sing a Song,” then worked their way to their first top-50 hit from 1973, “Jupiter,” and continued to take you on a musical journey.
My most memorable moment was when they finally sang “September.” Seeing the excitement in my sister and her fiance’s face was priceless. My family and I sang that song on the tops of our lungs, along with thousands of other Ravinia concert-goers, and it was a wonderful bonding moment for all.
