Elizabeth's Iliana Regan Selected One of Food and Wine 2016 Best New Chefs

Congratulations to Iliana Regan. The chef of Elizabeth and Bunny, the micro bakery, was announced this morning as one of Food and Wine 2016 Best New Chefs. Chefs are nominated by restaurant critics, food writers and other trusted experts, and the magazine’s editors visit each anonymously to pick the best in the country.

Regan, who hails from Merrilville and is the only female chef honoree, began Elizabeth as an underground supper club. Now it’s a brick-and-mortar Michelin-starred restaurant in Lincoln Square.

To see what makes Regan one of the best new chefs in the country you can (try to) book a table. Instead of traditional reservations, you book a table for two or four based on the seasonal menu. At press time you can still get a table for two on April 18 or 19. If there are four you’ll have to wait until May 18 – either way you should book them ASAP because, with this news, she’ll be even more in demand.

The short list includes chefs from coast to coast:

David Barzelay, Lazy Bear, San Francisco

Kevin Fink, Emmer & Rye, Austin

Michael Gulotta, MoPho and Tana, New Orleans

Edouardo Jordan, Salare, Seattle

Ravi Kapur, Liholiho Yacht Club, San Francisco

Brad Kilgore, Alter, Miami

Iliana Regan, Elizabeth and Bunny, the micro bakery, Chicago

Aaron Silverman, Rose’s Luxury and Pineapple and Pearls, Washington, D.C.

Jeremiah Stone & Fabián von Hauske, Contra and Wildair, New York City

Kris Yenbamroong, Night + Market and Night + Market Song, Los Angeles

The 2016 winners will be featured in the July issue of FOOD & WINE and will also be showcased at the FOOD & WINE Classic in Aspen from June 17 -19.
