B-17 “Aluminum Overcast” World War II Bomber Tour
August 18 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
An event every day that begins at 10:00 am, repeating until August 18, 2019
Since EAA began tours of the aircraft in 1994, tens of thousands of people have experienced this unique airplane through its flights and ground tours. Known as “The Flying Fortress,” the B-17 bomber is considered one of the greatest military airplanes ever built and one of the best-known aircraft types of the World War II era.
The B-17 Tour is not only a tour or plane ride, but a tribute to the many Americans that gave their lives for the United States. There are many airmen and soldiers living today that will come for a vivid taste of their history.
Join us for an unforgettable experience with one of the few remaining airworthy B-17s in the world. You won’t want to miss the Aluminum Overcast when it visits Waukegan National Airport August 15 – 18, 2019.
Climb aboard the 65,000 lb. B-17 bomber and step back in time to the World War II era. Stand in the footsteps of the bombardier, the navigator, and the waist gunner and relive history by experiencing this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to fly in one of World War II’s most vital and magnificent aircraft.
Feel the might of this magnificent flying machine as it soars through the sky on your mission flight where you’ll discover why it’s called the Flying Fortress.
People of all ages will appreciate the history associated with this airplane that helped the allies achieve victory. We invite families to visit and learn all about our aircraft and our organization
Revenues from the B-17 tour help cover maintenance and operational costs for the aircraft and aids our ambition to “keep ’em flying” for many years to come. Our tour stops are also hosted by volunteers who are passionate about sharing the B-17’s stories.
This event is brought to you by the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association), EAA Chapter 414 and the Waukegan National Airport.
