Experience the art of the Paul Taylor Dance Company in their only Chicago-area Appearance

Paul Taylor is one of the most acclaimed choreographers in American history, and you can experience his work on Mother’s Day weekend. This is Paul Taylor Dance Company’s only Chicago-area performance before they head to Europe.

As the greatest living pioneer of American modern dance, Paul Taylor has choreographed 144 dances that have been performed since he established the Paul Taylor Dance Company in 1954. More than sixty years later, he continues to offer cogent observations on life’s complexities and society’s thorniest issues through his dances.

A virtuoso dancer himself for 20 years, Taylor turned exclusively to choreography in 1974; the dance that followed, Esplanade, was hailed an instant classic.

His works are performed by the Paul Taylor Dance Company, and ballet and modern dance companies the world over, and you can see them live! On May 13 at 7:30pm they’ll perform at Moraine Valley Community College’s Fine and Performing Arts Center. Tickets are just $30 for the general public and $25 for students and seniors.

You can also get a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process with a free screening of Paul Taylor: Creative Domain. Paul Taylor has been reinventing the roles of music, movement and theme in dance for nearly 60 years. In that time he has offered only glimpses into his creative process, and this screening is a rare, in-depth documentation of how he creates a single dance. The free screening is May 9 at 6pm and no tickets or reservation is required.
