Explore Chicago's Films With Foursquare

When movie making first began Chicago was Hollywood before Hollywood was Hollywood. The Windy City was home to more production companies and filmmakers than any other. Although we quickly lost that status there’s been a resurgence in recent years.

The City of Chicago is helping to promote that upswing by combining our movie past and present with the popular social media tool Foursquare. They’ve created badges that users can earn by checking into places where scenes were filmed, inviting people to truly be “on location”. Most recently they’ve added Transformers 3, and they also have The Dark Knight, Ferris Beuhler’s Day Off, High Fidelity, and a collection of movies that fit in the category “Chick Flicks”. Of course, they’ve also included the iconic Blues Brothers.

For information on the badges and other games they’ve created to help you explore Chicago, visit explorechicago.org/games.
