From a Tweetup to a Tweet-Down

This week’s got me all a-Twitter. First of all, Blagica Bottigliero and I are bringing back Chic To Be Geek tomorrow night at the Apple Store. The topic? Twitter 101. The two of us are old pros at this fantastic tool and are going to walk you through the basics to make sure you get the most out of it. Believe me, when you use it correctly it can help create some pretty amazing opportunities. (As a bonus, Foiled Cupcakes is going to be providing some baked goodies!)

That “tweetup” is going to be followed by a “Tweet-Down“. This time I’m teaming up with Hope Bertram of Windy City Social, and we’re asking you to put down your iPhone/Blackberry/Palm Pre/Android/you-name-it. We’re heading out to Starved Rock this Saturday for some good ol’ fashioned hiking and face-to-face conversation. That’s right – no Tweeting allowed.

Are these two events contradictory? Not at all. Twitter is a great tool, but it’s easy to get addicted to that and other social media applications. So, tomorrow you can learn not only how to use it, but how to use it efficiently. Then Saturday you can step away from the technology for a few hours (or should I say step up?) and interact with people and nature – and work off those cupcakes! After the hike we’ll be having lunch at a local restaurant, then head back to the city refreshed and connected.
