Global street food has arrived at the Omni Hotel

One of the most vibrant and exciting trends in cuisine, “street food” is eaten by 2.5 billion people per day across the world (Food and Agriculture Organization, 2011). 

Considered a tasty, ready-to-eat meal option quickly available for people on the go, most street foods are served by vendors on the sidewalk or roadside. Street foods typically feature fresh, local ingredients and seasonings. Almost every culture has some version of street food, which has grown to symbolize the complex flavors of each part of the world.
 
Omni Hotels & Resorts challenged chefs from around the world working at partnering Global Hotel Alliance properties to create recipes inspired by the savory aromas and palate- teasing tastes of “street foods” from their home regions.  Global Hotel Alliance (GHA) is a collection of 14 upscale and luxury hotel brands from across the world. Guests can choose from 300 hotels in 52 countries, each of which reflects the distinctive culture and traditions of their locations. GHA member brands currently include Anantara, The Doyle Collection, First Hotels, Kempinski, The Leela, Lungarno Collection, Marco Polo, Mirvac, Mokara, Omni, Pan Pacific, Parkroyal, Shaza and Tivoli hotels and resorts. More than 100 chefs globally competed, combining familiar ethnic flavors, textures and ingredients to create an international culinary experience.  Ultimately, six recipes were selected to be featured in the deliciously eclectic Simply Street Food Menu – three recipes from Omni chefs, and three from GHA member chefs. 
 
The menu is now available through March 2013.
 
I recently had the pleasure to be invited to the 676 Restaurant & Bar at the Omni Hotel in Chicago for a sneak preview of this amazing new menu.  All I can say is, “Run, don’t walk, to the Omni and try out these six winning recipes for yourself.  You won’t be sorry.”
