Bars along the Rush/Division corridor in Chicago have long been known for late night alcohol-induced fun. In recognition, the Chicago City Council proclaimed the portion of Division Street between State Street and Dearborn Parkway the “Division Street Entertainment District” on October 7, 2009. One of those bars, The Original Mother’s, was even made famous in the classic 1986 movie “About Last Night”.
It’s hard to believe that The Original Mother’s is turning 45 today. So many memories, mostly fuzzy ones. You are invited to come celebrate their birthday tonight (11/27/13). The Spazmatics will play fun songs from 1980’s and The Original Mother’s will dedicate a Division Street Entertainment District Wall of Fame with music and movie memorabilia from the artists and actors who have frequented the area over the past 45 years.
The Original Mother’s has seen some pretty incredible acts grace its stage over the years, including Lou Reed with the Velvet Underground, Chicago, Chaka Khan, and Eric Clapton with Cream in its early years. In more recent years, The Original Mother’s sister bar, She-nannigans, has hosted artists such as the Dave Matthews Band, Tegan and Sara, Better Than Ezra, Peter Wolf (of the J. Geils Band), Rusted Root, Squeeze, The Go-Go’s, Drive By Truckers, The Subdudes, Cracker, Matthew Sweet, and Ike Reilly, just to name a few.
The Original Mother’s will open to the public at 8pm tonight and stay open all the way until 4am (that will make for an interesting Thanksgiving!). The Divisioin Street Entertainment District Wall Of Fame will be unveiled at 8:30pm and The Spazmatics take the stage at 9pm. You must be 21 or over to attend. There is no cover charge.
