Happy House at Out of the Blues

Marvelous music, fantastic food, delicious drinks and stacks of
smiles filled the air at the House of Blues event last Friday.  The Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center (ZCenter)
hosted its third annual “Out of the Blues

The event was to be headlined by Blues Hall of Famer Lonnie Brooks, but
an illness kept him from performing.  Eddy “The Chief” Clearwater kicked-off the musical entertainment
and the opener, Shemekia Copleand, then
headlined.  Copeland and her band rocked the house.  This woman’s
voice is so amazing, I got goosebumps.

With the price
of general admission there was a four hour open bar, a buffet full of food and
desserts and plenty of networking and social opportunities.

WGN radio’s Garry Meier emceed the event and was on stage
during their live auction that featured Cubs tickets, Odyssey Cruises, a House
of Blues Foundation Room party, a trip to San Diego and more.

On a serious note,
the ZCenter made announcements throughout the evening explaining what all the
funds will be used for.  There was even a woman who spoke about being raped and what the ZCenter did to help her through her darkest days.

The ZCenter provides 24-hour crisis intervention, counseling
services and advocacy support for victims (and their loved ones) of sexual
assault, abuse and rape. The Center also offers educational prevention and
awareness programs for northeastern Illinois communities.  For more information
