The Scottish people are noted for many things including a devilishly quirky sense of humor. They are also noted for some amazing alcoholic offerings, most notably an epic number of Scotch distilleries. What many people don’t know, however, is that another quirky and notable liquor also hails from the Highlands – Hendrick’s Gin.
Hendrick’s is a most unusual Gin that has taken the world by storm since it was first introduced, thanks to its delightfully unique flavor, which combines a distinct blend of eleven botanicals, as well as the signature infusions of Cucumber and Rose petals, producing a wonderfully refreshing gin with a unique aroma. Hand crafted in Scotland in miniscule batches by William Grant & Sons, Hendrick’s uses a marriage of spirits from a Carter-Head and Copper Pot Still, a combination that produces a smooth gin that has both the required character and balance of subtle flavors. In the ten years since Hendrick’s was first introduced to America, it has gained widespread acclaim and received numerous awards
Chicagoans recently had a unique chance to experience both the quirky Scottish humor of the Hendrick’s Gin family, and the tremendously smooth and complex flavors of the product. The delightfully peculiar Hendrick’s Gin invited Chicagoans to open their minds, unfasten their senses and join “Voyages Into the Unusual” for three nights of extraordinary experiences from Tuesday, Sept. 25 – Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012. The events took place at Salvage One, 1840 W. Hubbard.
This awe-inspiring consumer experience allowed guests the opportunity to interact with the world as it is seen by Hendrick’s Gin, featuring creative cocktail libations and a scintillating cast of Hendrick’s Gin characters all in a setting complete with a grand Explorer’s Lounge, a frenzied Botanist’s Den and a full scale Apothecary.
Libations sampled during the event included the Hendrick’s Voyages Into the Unusual Traveling Punch, modified ever so slightly to include the best local and seasonal ingredients that Chicago has to offer including local Hum liqueur, local peach tea from Rob at Rare Tea Cellars and seasonal Michigan peaches.
Thanks to our friends at Hendrick’s, we have included this tasty recipe at the end of this post!
Other tipples included a range of creations, from the signature Hendrick’s Gin & Tonic to the more complex Carawayfarer with Hendrick’s Gin, lemon juice, fennel juice, raspberries and framboise lambic, in addition to nearly ten other peculiar concoctions.
Guests were entertained all night with a roving cast of Hendrick’s-inspired characters and by the eclectic Austin, TX-based band, White Ghost Shivers, among other circus acts, stations and unusual surprises.
Chicago was the third stop in the year-long “Voyages Into The Unusual” series which previously docked in Houston, TX and San Francisco, CA and will continue on to Philadelphia, PA (Oct. 16 – 18) and conclude in New York, NY (Oct. 30 – Nov. 1).
