Best of the Fest, Best BBQ Wing, Rookie of the Year
Chicago WingFest 2016 Champs, Mapped
The 2016 Chicago WingFest was a madcap chaotic homage to all things chicken wing. Nearly 2,000 people consumed over 50,000 wings - that's about 25 wings per person. The demand was so intense that by 2pm, just one hour into the fest, a third of the participating restaurants were completely out of wings. Veterans came prepared, adorned with whole rolls of paper towels and bringing their own plastic dishes to carry their plucked prizes.
Eighteen restaurants participated and competed in various categories: Mild, Hot, BBQ, and Exotic. The following were proclaimed winners, in a double-blind judged competition. They're also mapped below: Best Mild Wing: a tie between Reverie and Gators, Best Hot Wing: Timothy O’Toole’s, Best BBQ Wing: Dinosaur BBQ, Best Exotic Wing: Output, Rookie of the Year: Dinosaur BBQ, and earning the most cumulative points for the coveted Best of the Fest: Dinosaur BBQ.
Congratulations to all the winners, the participants, and the wing-nuts who survived another year of Chicago WingFest.
WingFest is more than just about eating a bunch of wings. It's also about giving back to the community. To date, WingFest has raised over $155,000 for various charities, and this year’s WingFest once again netted $5,000 for Chicago Neighbors United www.chicnu.org. CNU is a non-profit, community based organization which provides educational scholarships to inner city youth residing in the 27th Ward of Chicago and assists with various neighborhood programs throughout the year.
