Jazz Showcase Returns

If there were any question that the South Loop is Chicago’s hottest neighborhood, for jazz fans it is now answered. Legend Joe Segal and his son Wayne are reopening legendary Jazz Showcase in Dearborn Station this Thursday.

According to a story in the Chicago Tribune, there will be a few changes in the format. Visiting headliners will play from Thursdays through Sundays, the sets will start earlier, and there will be jam sessions with Chicago musicians. The father-son team also want it to be more of a hang-out than the previous locations. After club’s gotten a bit settled Chicago musicians will take the stage on Mondays through Wednesdays.

The last club was at 59 West Grand and closed on January 1, 2007 after losing its lease.

Pianist Junior Mance will take the stage opening week from June 12 – 15 at 7pm and 9pm with an additional show on Sunday at 4pm. The jam sessions will follow the performance.
