Kids Are Foodies, Too: Corks & Crayons Event Benefits Purple Asparagus

Children are not and should not be stuck with chicken nuggets, grilled cheese, and other “yellow food”, as a friend of mine calls the standard fare on kids’ menus. Purple Asparagus proves that every day with their food-is-fun approach, bringing even the un-like-liest of vegetables to classrooms and events. Carrots, rutabagas, you name it are all in the “no yuck zone”.

On August 26 the Greenhouse Loft turns into a huge no yuck zone for the 8th Annual Corks & Crayons. This annual fundraiser celebrates food and drink for kids of all ages. There will be tastings from local chefs, including Top Chef’s Heather Terhune, Richie Farina from Moto, and the 2012 James Beard Award winner for Outstanding Pastry, Mindy Segal from Hot Chocolate. The whole night’s hosted by Michael Moody, NBC’s Biggest Loser Chicago Tour fitness expert. For the adults in the crowd there will be adult beverages from Three Floyds, Templeton Rye, and Candid Wines.

Tickets are $70 for adults 19 and up, and $15 for kids ages 5 to 18.
