The West Loop has become one of the most thriving restaurant scenes in Chicago. For brunch, one of the most superb options in that area is La Sirena Clandestina, located at 954 W. Fulton Market. The inventive brunch menu and fascinating cocktail program are sure to please any and all diners no matter if you are an omnivore, vegetarian, or vegan. Their normal brunch menu is inventive and intriguing, but on Sunday, February 22 they will offer a very special, one time only menu.
Chefs John Manion and Mark Steuer announce the La Colombe takeover at La Sirena Clandestina, a special brunch collaboration with the specialty coffee roaster on Sunday, February 22, 2015. The a la carte menu features everything from coffee and oxtail marmalade to espresso yogurt.
“Our team at La Sirena Clandestina relies on La Colombe coffee as our fuel throughout the day. We can’t think of a better brunch collaboration than with our favorite coffee roasters,” says Manion. “This is a real passion project for us and we’re excited to share the menu with our guests.”
Warning! The restaurant is small, so if this menu sounds interesting to you then I highly suggest making a reservation by calling 312.226.5300 now!
I was recently invited to sample the takeover menu and was treated to some amazing options, including the Coffee & Doughnuts featuring a coffee glazed doughnut with dark chocolate milk. The glaze on the doughnut is not overly-sweet, rather bringing in the savory and bitter notes of the ground coffee beans. You can also sample the Coffee French Toast with whipped ricotta and coffee caramel, and the Affogato with espresso, buttermilk gelato and La Colombe infused rum. For savory fans, the chefs will also serve Coffee-Cured Foie Gras Torchon with brioche and blood orange preserves, and Carbonara with house made tagliatelle and a coffee poached egg. That coffee-poached egg was one of the tastiest egg preparations I have tried.
One of my favorites on the La Colombe Takeover menu was the Root Vegetable Red Eye Gravy with polenta, poached eggs, and salsa verde. From the “regular” menu, you also cannot go wrong with their Kale Salad, possibly the best kale salad I have had in Chicago. Their Plantain Chilaquiles (fried plantain, salsa verde, fried egg, pickled fresno peppers) are also well worth a try.
For cocktails, don’t miss the Manzanilla Sour, a traditional ‘sour’ recipe made with dry sherry. The other cocktail that you must try is their signature La Serena, bottled and made with Chilean Pisco, rhubarb amaro, Italian aperitif, lemon, and agave. Wow!
The La Colombe Takeover menu is only available on Sunday, February 22 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Reservations are highly suggested and may be made by visiting www.lasirenachicago.com or by calling 312.226.5300.
