Lavazza's Espesso: Time Magazine's Best Inventions

Congratulations to Lavazza! Ferran Adria created “Espesso” for the coffee cafe, and it was named by Time Magazine as one of the Best Inventions for 2006. This list includes Internet sensation YouTube, a floating matress, and a battery powered sports car.

Espesso “is a mousse-like creation that embodies the flavor and aroma of Lavazza’s renowned espresso, yet has the innovative and compelling distinction of being solid and therefore eatable, served in a demitasse and eaten with a spoon.” It’s fitting that Chicago would be home to one of Time’s selections, since the city’s culinary scene is becoming famous for gastro-experimentalists like Grant Achatz (Alinea) and Homaru Cantu (Moto)

Lavazza has three locations in the Loop, and they’re the only locations in the world with no plans to expand any time soon. The recipe for Espesso’s secret and it takes 12 hours to make, so each store will have a limited supply.

I visited Lavazza this summer and was VERY impressed. I still get cravings for the prosciutto baguette and the Berrisimo.
