Journey Into London Below With Neverwhere

Neverwhere
Saturday, June 9, 2018 - 1:19pm

Richard Mayhew commits an act of kindness on the streets of London and finds himself trapped in a shadow world beneath the city. Lady Door returns home one day to find her family slain and her life upended. Drawn together by fate - and forces more powerful than they can guess - these two must brave countless trials, uncover the truth behind a dark conspiracy, and face the indomitable Great Beast before they can set things right again. Journey to London Below with a rogues' gallery of liars, outcasts, and assassins, on a treacherous quest to awaken the hero within.

Neverwhere
In this epic award-winning adventure, the battle rages on between the forces of good and evil, but nothing is what it seems. The talented crew of Lifeline Theatre manages to create the vivid and brooding world of London Below, full of memorable characters and quippy one-liners. The production runs two and a half hours (with one intermission), yet time seems to fly by in an instant. As audience, we find ourselves cheering for the underdog and holding our collective breath only to gasp in the presence of ultimate betrayal. The play takes us through the whole spectrum of emotions, which is infinitely worth the price of admission.

Neverwhere is adapted by ensemble member Robert Kauzlaric and directed by Pegasus Theatre Executive Artistic Director Ilesa Duncan. This adaptation premiered at Lifeline in 2010. It received three Non-Equity Jeff Awards and was staged across US, Canada, England and Ireland. Neverwhere returns home for the first time since the 2010 world premiere with Duncan at the helm.

Lifeline Theatre, now in its 35th season, is passionate about storytelling. The ensemble supports writers in development of adaptations and new work. A mainstay of Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago's Far North Side, Lifeline is committed to its growing connection to the evolving family of artists and audiences. "If John Steinbeck earned a Nobel Prize in Literature shortly after publishing Travels with Charley, then Theresa should start planning a trip to Oslo, Norway, because Two Lane Gems is every bit the book Travels with Charley was. And then some." ~Amazon review
