The ACME Hotel Launches a Pop-Up Gallery

Thursday, October 2, 2014 - 6:41am

During Chicago’s boom of boutique hotels, the ACME Hotel Company opened with some of the most unique art in the city. From hand-painted flying mannequins in the light wells to elevators covered in album covers, the hotel is celebrating Chicago Artists Month with four new art initiatives.

A pop-up gallery in the lobby: The hotel is transforming its lobby window display into a mini pop-up gallery featuring local artists. Additionally, a local artist designed two floor-to-ceiling decals made for the elevator’s exterior doors.  Cost: Free

Art + Booze = Booz-casso: Arts n Spirits will hold two special pop-up BYOB art classes on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7pm and Friday, Oct. 24 at 7pm. The team from Arts n Spirits will provide the art supplies and teach the class how to paint like Picasso, while ACME will supply glassware for wine and spirits. Cost: $35

Art Rocks! Hotel Package: Special for October, the package includes an Art & Architect Segway tour for two, a BYOB painting class at Arts n Spirits in Bucktown for two, a Chicago Street Art book, as well as a king suite. Rates start at $299

#ArtRocksAcme chalkboard art contest: Inspired by their Do Not Disturb chalkboard signs, the hotel wants to see you flex your art muscles for a chance to win a two-night stay. To enter guests and the public should post a picture on Instagram of their chalkboard masterpiece with the hashtag #ArtRocksAcme. The contest is open through Oct. 31. Cost: Free
