Red Bull Flugtag Lands in Chicago

Wednesday, September 18, 2013 - 12:11pm

The moon landing in 1969 was a monumental day for mankind and historic day for aviation. This weekend aviation history takes another giant leap forward with Red Bull Flugtag

Taking place this Saturday along the lake at Burnham Park, the Flugtag - German for flying day – pits 30 human-powered flying machines against one another in a competition of creativity, showmanship and, of course, flight.

This year’s teams come from as far away as Alaska, but it’s the hometown heroes that you should support. Holding a special spot in the hearts and minds of Bears fans everywhere, Da Suit Crew is bringing the heat with Da Thrill of Da Grill.

Inspired by what Bears fans do best, Da Suit Crew will fight for a spot on the podium by flying a massive “grill.” With any luck, there’ll be a strong wind blowing off Lake Michigan to carry them into aviation history.

The hangers open at 11:00am and the first flight is 1:00pm. And if you have a thing for Flugtag pilots, swing by Headquarters Beercade on Sheffield for the official post-party.

Red Bull is running shuttles to the event from the following venues. Shuttles leave at approximately 11am from the following locations:

  • Mcgee's (950 W Webster Ave)
  • Redmonds (3358 N Sheffield Ave)
  • Duffy's (420½ W Diversey Pkwy)
  • Temple Bar (3001 N Ashland Ave)
  • Durkin's (810 W Diversey Pkwy)

Can't make it to Burnham Park but still want to catch the action? Join Red Bull at these locations as they live stream the madness!

  • The Grid (351 W Hubbard)
  • Headquarters (2833 N Sheffield Ave)
  • Roscoe's (3356 N HALSTED)
  • River's Casino (3000 S RIVER ROAD)
  • Vinyl (121 W Hubbard St.)
