Celebrities, Bikes & BBQ Take Over Kiehl’s Michigan Avenue Store for Good Cause
Kiehl’s kicked-off their 5th Annual LifeRide for amfAR (The Foundation for AIDS Research) in Chicago. Kiehl’s President, Chris Salgardo is joined by celebrity supporters of the cause – including Chicago P.D.’s Jesse Lee Soffer, Sons of Anarchy’s Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Switched at Birth’s Gilles Marini and 'Masters of Sex’s' Teddy Sears – as they embark on a multi-day, multi-stop motorcycle ride around the U.S. to help raise awareness and benefit AIDS research.
The crowd at the store’s Michigan Avenue location enjoyed BBQ from Lillie’s Q and admired the Harley-Davidsons dominating the Mag Mile block. The Local Tourist was on hand to mingle with the celebrity do-gooders (and stuff their face with pulled pork sandwiches).
Teddy Sears' wife and fellow actor Milissa Sears hails from Barrington and was excited to show her husband the city – first up: the TILT at the Chicago 360 and refueling with a quick slice from Giordano’s.
The highlight of the afternoon (apart from the bottle of Carolina sauce that made its way into our bag), was catching up with bandana and leather-clad Malcolm-Jamal Warner, looking as unlike Theo Huxtable - The Cosby Show role that made him famous - as possible.
TLT: On the upcoming and final season of Sons of Anarchy, you’ll join the cast as Sticky, a member of the Grim Bastards and right-hand man to T.O. Cross [played by Michael Beach]. Did you have to learn to ride a motorcycle for the part?
MJW: [laughs and mindlessly rubs his hard-won facial hair] No. I think one of the reasons they cast me was because of my bike! I get to ride my own bike on the show. It’s awesome.
TLT: Well, since you’re an avid rider….Route 66 starts in Chicago. Have you ever ridden the historic highway?
MJW: Actually no – I’m based in LA so I don’t get a chance to ride out here much. I’ve heard it’s awesome. Someday.
TLT: You’re obviously a badass gang leader in SOA. Do you think your gang could take Jesse and the Chicago P.D. crew? Chicagoans are a pretty tough breed. [Jesse Lee Soffer stars in police drama Chicago P.D. and joined Warner on the amfAR ride across the U.S.]
MJW: [said with a confident smirk] I can’t give it away because answering that question might give away a little bit of what we’re doing this season. But I can say we’re pretty badass. And we’re charter club with SOA, so if you mess with us, you mess with the Sons. So we’ve got backup.
Fair enough, Theo. Fair enough.
How You Can Help: Dry hands? As part of this initiative, the brand sells a Limited Edition Ultimate Strength Hand Salve, a jumbo-sized tube of their classic and best seller, with 100 percent of the proceeds of the sales of this product going to benefit amfAR. So, tackle those cracked claws with a clean conscience and pick up a bottle to do your part.
