Zagat, publisher of the popular restaurant review and rating guides, has teamed up with Irish Spring to create a pocket guide to America's Top Irish Pubs. Chicago has 16 rated pubs and restaurants, and four of them are located downtown:

Celtic Crossings, 751 N Clark St, (312)337-1005
You're likely to meet actual Irish people at this pub located in the heart of River North, and it's got the feel of a local hangout.

Fado Irish Pub, 100 W Grand Ave, (312)836-0066
Even though it's advertised in all the tourist magazines, it's not nearly as cheesy as you might expect. The entire bar, including the bartenders, was imported from Ireland.

The Kerryman, 661 N Clark St, (312)335-8121
This three-leveled spot has a more modern feel, with a granite bar and leather booths.

McFadden's, 1206 N State Pkwy, (312)475-9450
Located in the Rush and Division area the clientele tends to the younger side, and can be a bit rowdier. They also have frequent drink specials.
