Five Luxurious Places to Watch the Chicago Air and Water Show

If you're going to watch the Chicago Air and Water Show this weekend you don't have to fight the crowds for blanket space. Instead make plans to elevate your experience with a buffet on the beach, a private party in the Hancock, or a rooftop away from the fray.

Caffè Oliva at Ohio Street Beach (pictured above)

If beach seating is on your wish list, Caffè Oliva is the place to be. Between Lake Shore Drive and Navy Pier you'll be slightly above the beach crowds with open bar and quick access to Streeterville for a speedy post-show getaway.

Details: Caffe Oliva, 550 E Grand Ave, $139.99/person + $28 fees, or call 312-612-0734

The J. Parker at Hotel Lincoln

With Lincoln Park as your buffer from the beach crowds, the J. Parker is your place for a relaxed day party with the Chicago Air & Water Show in the background.  While you may not have the best view of the air show, this is a relaxed atmosphere perfect to sample bites from a menu created by James Beard-nominated chef Paul Virant. Some tables are reserved for hotel guests and locals can reserve by calling 312-254-4747.

Details: J. Parker, 1816 N Clark St, Open Saturday at 10am and Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

The Signature Room at the John Hancock

For an eye level view of the Blue Angels, the Signature Room is hosting a party in the comfort of the private dining rooms. The party includes a gourmet buffet and an open bar featuring craft cocktails. From that high up you can actually look down on some of the action.

Details: The Signature Roon, 875 N Michigan Ave, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., $150 per person, call 312-787-9596 to purchase

THE dec Rooftop Lounge + Bar

If your time is limited and you want a bite to eat with an aviation backdrop head to The Ritz-Carlton Chicago's rooftop "dec". Tucked in between Water Tower Place and the John Hancock Building, you won't see much of the show but you'll certainly be able to hear it. Of course, you could always watch from nearby Oak Street Beach and then head up for an after-air show donut sundae.

Details: The dec, 160 E Pearson, Open from 12:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

Cite Restaurant

Located 70 stories up in Lake Point Tower, you won't suffer neck strain if you take advantage of this prime location. They're offering a special on Sunday featuring a carving station, chilled seafood including oysters, and artisan cheeses and desserts.

Details: Available Sunday from 10:30am to 2:30pm, $68/person + tax, beverages, and gratuity.
