The producers of Chicago’s WingFest present HogFight, an end-of-summer food competition of outsized proportions, on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at Mahoney’s Pub & Grille, located at 551 North Ogden Avenue in Chicago. HogFight is a whole-hog competition pitting select Chicagoland chefs against one another to declare the “HogMaster”, who takes home bragging rights and $1,000 in cash. Proceeds benefit the Variety – The Children’s Charity of Illinois.

The bar is high for this year’s competition, as previous participants included such notable chefs, Brian Jupiter of Frontier, Cory Morris of Mercat a la Planxa and last year’s Hogmaster Joshua Marrelli of Chop Shop.

This year, the master of judging ceremonies will be Famous Dave Anderson, one of Chicago’s original pitmasters and the legendary founder of Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que restaurants. Dave Anderson, known as America’s Rib King, has judged numerous KCBS sanctioned competitions and was recently crowned SMOKED Champion on Destination America’s hit BBQ competition TV series, SMOKED.  Dave will be joined by members of Chicago’s Culinary Fight Club and other notable pitmasters.

Ten area chefs will participate, each utilizing a 100-pound pig fresh from Slagel Family Farm. Each chef will submit loin, shoulder, belly and ham portions in a double-blind judged competition where each category will have a winner and one overall HogMaster will be selected and awarded $1,000 cash.

This year’s chef line-up includes Jakes of Porkies, Chef Corey Grupe of Timothy O’Tooles, Phil DeRosa of Lagunitas, Matt Campbell of 90 Miles Cuban Café, Mike Flores of Reconnect Cuisine, Cory Morris of Rural Societry Chicago, Lamar More of Smoke Daddy, Chris Bogja of Mr B’s BBQ and Luis Garcia of Porkchop.

“HogFight is a new late-summer Chicago tradition with proceeds benefitting a great cause,” says Chef Nick “Diablo” Hoover, HogFight Head Chef. “With over 300 guests last year, we raised over $3,000 for Variety, and we expect an even bigger turnout this year.”

HogFight will provide attendees with 1,000 pounds of all-you-can-eat pork for $20 per person with 20% of the ticket sales going to Variety – The Children’s Charity of Illinois. HogFight will take place rain or shine at Mahoney’s utilizing its ample outdoor patio, airy cantina and spacious indoor bar. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the event, if available.
