Mark your calendars and get ready to roll, back by popular demand the upcoming iterations of Chicago Athletic Association hotel's skate nights feature five chances to roll, bounce, and glide at 12 S. Michigan Ave.
Led by the property’s Social Connections Society, offering engaging and thoughtful programming for Chicagoans and visitors, the hotel’s original gymnasium transforms for the skate sessions including choreographed roller dance performances by Chicago Roller Talent. From awakening the Force to a night with the Champagne Papi, the Chicago Athletic Association hotel continues to provide a new spin on roller skating.
Star Wars Skate Night
Friday, May 4 (6 – 8 p.m. & 9 – 11 p.m.): This May the Fourth, the Force awakens as the Chicago Athletic Association hotel’s roller rink takes shape as a new Galaxy. Welcoming fans and skate nerds alike to hit the rink whether as a Rogue One, flying Solo, or with a Legion. Themed attire encouraged.
Kentucky Roller Derby Skate Party
Saturday, May 5 (4 – 6 p.m. & 7 – 9 p.m.): Witness the most exciting two minutes in sports, while experiencing the most exciting two hours on wheels in Stagg Court. Both sessions bring the best of the Kentucky Derby (the Mint Juleps, that is), with the 4 p.m. session live-streaming the Run for the Roses and the 7 p.m. session reveling in the afterglow. Grandiose hats highly encouraged. To embrace the inner jockey, inflatable horse-on-a-stick are available for purchase while they last.
Roller Dance Fitness
Sunday, June 17 at 11 a.m. & Monday, June 18 at 6 p.m.: With the throwback of roller skating gaining traction across the world, the hotel is excited to team up with pro skater Elizabeth Perez to offer skaters of all levels the opportunity to engage in this groovy workout. The 90-minute classes will break down the classic roller dance moves and invite participants to perform them with confidence and rhythm. The class covers spins, jumps, and proper skating technique improving core strength, balance, agility, and coordination. Space is limited, $20 per session with skate rental included.
Drake & His Dates Skate
Friday & Saturday, September 7 & 8 (6 – 8 p.m. & 9 – 11 p.m. both nights): By any name – Aubrey, Jimmy Brooks, or Champagne Papi – Drake’s music provides the soundtrack of the night with smooth sounds and impeccable dance moves. Sprinkled in with the ladies that have loved and left him, including JLo, Rhianna, and many more, whether it’s the real thing or Fake Love feel the Hotline Bling as part of God’s Plan before it’s all Over.
Friday & Saturday, December 14 & 15 (6 – 8 p.m. & 9 – 11 p.m. both nights): Deck the halls – and the roller rink – the Chicago Athletic Association hotel brings wintertime seasonal skating indoors with a spirited chance to roll into the holidays. Mistletoes returns for another weekend of multi-session skating, complete with festive tunes and liquid cheer.
An admission price of $20 per person, ages 18 and over with valid ID, guarantees entry to one two-hour skating session and performance by Chicago Roller Talent. Attendees are welcome to bring their own roller skates, or invited to rent adult sizes for $5, cash only. Treats and themed libations will be available for purchase. When registering for sessions, guests should note there will be a 60-minute break between sessions to reset the room.
