Rick Springfield is Stripped Down at City Winery

Rick Springfield returns to City Winery Chicago tonight for an encore performance of his “Stripped Down” tour, an intimate solo performance with storytelling between each song.  Barrington native William Beckett (formerly of The Academy Is) once again opens ths show.

To say fans are excited to enjoy this unique opportunity to be up close and personal with the hot Dr. Drake from General Hospital is putting it mildly.  I won the hosting lottery and moderated the question/answer session after his last performance at City Winery and the sea of happy faces I saw from the stage said it all.  Judging by the knowledgable questions asked I assumed many concert goers were longtime fans and possibly had seen him live before.  But this would have been their very first chance to see him alone on stage, completely opening his heart up about his life and career.  Springfield whole heartedly answered questions about his life as a singer, songwriter, actor, author, car enthusiast, Beatles fan, husband, father and dog lover.  He didn’t shy away from anything.  During his performnce he chatted between each song, tossing out some juicy tidbits of what went into the songs he wrote before he played them.  He probably should add “stand up comic” to his long list of talents, he was extremely funny!  My favorite moment was when he performed the first song he ever wrote and made fun of it…then played it again how he imagined it to be (and suddenly it sounded like a Beatles hit).

Okay, that’s not true.  My favorite moment was when he hugged me.  I cannot believe Rick Springfield is 64 years old!  Honestly, he seemed more like 44.

If you are lucky enough to have a ticket to his sold out show tonight make sure you have some questions ready, but don’t ask to hug or kiss him.  The hugs come during the meet and greet afterwards (also sold out).
