Rockit Burger Bar rocked Wrigleyville with their Cinco de Derby party

Rarely does the Kentucky Derby fall directly on Cinco de Mayo, but since it happened this year quite a few bars and restaurants had to scramble to find ways to celebrate both together.  Throw into the mix a home game for the Cubs and you might get a sense of just how much madness could have possibly ensued at Rockit Burger Bar on Saturday, May 5.

Luckily, Rockit knows how to throw a good party and how to keep patrons happy so the triple threat was great fun and not too crazy.

I was invited to attend the super fun “Cinco de Derby” event on May at Rockit Burger Bar.  While Cubs fans were lamenting their loss in the downstairs area, another group of us were celebrating the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby (and a little Cinco de Mayo) in the spacious upstairs spaces.  Guests for the Cinco de Derby event were dressed in traditional Derby attire and enjoying a party which included Derby-themed cocktails, appetizers, and a raffle benefiting the University of Chicago Koveler Diabetes Center

Rockit Burger Bar deserves a special shout out for both a great Derby party and for giving back to the community by raising money for a worthy cause.  The University of Chicago Kovler Diabetes Center offers a patient-centered, science-based approach for managing insulin-dependent type-1 and complex type-2 diabetes. Their multidisciplinary team works with patients and referring physicians to address all the challenges of diabetes, from hypertension and vascular problems, to foot conditions and kidney disease. They offer second opinions and ongoing treatment for people living with diabetes.

If you haven’t heard about Rockit Wrigley transforming into Rockit Burger Bar, check out this excellent blog post from Paige Worthy.  Paige’s blog post gives you all the information you need to know about the amazing burgers (and other tasty bites) available on the Rockit Burger Bar menu.  What struck me during my visit, however, were the great event spaces.  Rockit is located directly across the street from Wrigley Field at 3700 North Clark Street and can accommodate from 20 to 200 guests in a variety of spaces.  The Derby event was held in the upstairs event spaces and even though the Cubs fans were having an extremely loud and raucous time downstairs, none of that sound interfered with the calmer upstairs party.
