Inaugural rosé wine tasting at Volo Winebar was a blast! And with seven rosé wines from the world over, plus another one on tap at the bar, this charming patio event priced at $28 was the best bargain in town. Who wouldn’t enjoy a glass of chilled rosé alfresco, am I right? Rosé all day!
The good folks at Volo know how to run a good tasting. With two timed sessions, limited to 30 tickets each, the tasting is never overcrowded. There is never any reason to stand in line or jostle for position. This is how it should be. Held in the backyard private event space they call a barn, run by the friendly and knowledgeable staff, the tastings at Volo are well worth the price of admission. Add to that the generous pours and a dinner discount should you reserve a post tasting table, and they might just be a steal.
While enjoyable across the board, the pinkalicious standouts of the event for me were very clear. The 2015 Birichino Vin Gris from Central California packed a punch of strawberry jam, black currants and fresh marygolds. The 2015 Le Charmel Rosé from Provence, France was delicate & nuanced, with notes of fresh strawberry, rhubarb, sweet pea and Parmesan rind. The 2015 Seven Hills Rosé of Cabernet Franc from Columbia Valley in Washington was vegetal with notes of green pepper, while light salmon in color and zingy with minerality.
With so many delicious wines, there was something for everyone. Check out the gallery below for specific bottles and make plans to attend a Volo wine tasting. You’ll thank me later.
Volo Winebar is located at 2008 W. Roscoe in the heart of Roscoe Village. Tastings are held monthly.
