Say Happy Birthday to The King

I confess: I was never much of an Elvis fan. The only things I knew about the man were peanut butter & banana sandwiches, crazy costumes & crazier appetites, and Priscilla & Lisa Marie. I knew about that whole “King of Rock ‘n Roll” title, but it wasn’t until I visited Graceland last month for the Writing The Rails tour that I caught a glimmer of Elvis fever. Besides being absolutely gorgeous (how did I not know this before?) and a musical ground breaker, he was also generous.

This Friday would have been his 75th birthday. The Original Mother’s is celebrating with a whole line-up of Elvis Tribute Artists and live portrait paintings of the King. Radio Hall of Famer Dick  Biondi will broadcast live from 7pm to midnight. There will be Elvis karaoke and  a look-a-like contest for a chance to win a trip for two to Graceland.

Of course there will be a peanut butter and banana buffet, but more importantly and appropriately the $5 suggested donation will benefit the New Orleans Musician Clinic. Happy Birthday, Mr. Presley!
