SCORE One For Chicago Entrepreneurs

It’s common, and wise, advice that an entrepreneur needs to have mentors and be surrounded by successful business people who can share their knowledge. Just how do you go about finding those people, and how much would you pay to learn from someone who’s been there, done that?

SCORE to the rescue. This non-profit organization, which receives some funding from the Small Business Administration, offers free, yes, free, one-on-one counseling with executives and successful entrepreneurs. They also offer workshops that provide more detailed training. Last week I was on the panel for their Conducting Business Online Workshop with John Fell, Katie Das (also a SCORE counselor), and Paul Segedin. To illustrate how successful they can be, Paul had taken the workshop the previous year.

The workshops range from $40 to $65. SCORE also offers a Business Certificate series, which is a collection of 6 programs that are particularly useful for those looking to secure financing.

Visit SCORE’s website to make an appointment for counseling, and to check out their workshops.
